Hedgehogs need alot of stimulation, they are nocturnal by nature, however this does not stop them being active. They can run up to 8 miles a night and as such need the room and ability to do that, if they do not have this room, they will very quickly become overweight and stressed. I would highly recommend to anyone considering or already owning a hedgehog to get them a wheel. I have a 12" silent spinner and this is a good size for my hogs, however like any animal, different hogs will vary in size and you may find a smaller wheel will suffice, Igel is smaller than Ivy so he would be OK in a smaller wheel, however he does love his silent spinner!
Hedgehogs are very clever and friendly creatures and like any animal, the more you put in, the more you will get out! They love toys, even simple things like toilet rolls and tubes will help. My girly loves rolling a ball around her cage, and if it has a bell in thats even better, Igel loves toilet rolls and has hours of fun with them, he is an exercise freak, he LOVES his wheel and spends practically all night in it, Ivy is more conservative in her exercise and will run for a while and then do something else, all hogs are different and have their own personalities!!
